Empowerment instead of charity: Since 2012, ELIJAH has been living and working alongside Roma communities in Transylvania. Our NGO stands for participation, respect, and social justice – with projects in education, music, housing, community, and empowerment. Today we are a network with 80 staff members, active in seven locations across Romania.

Our Work – In Practice:

• Education & Equal Opportunities: Social centers with homework support, warm meals, recreational activities; music schools with over 300 children
• Safe Housing: Over 160 family homes built together; safe spaces for young mothers
• Youth Development: Dormitories, training support, study scholarships
• Living Community: Many staff members come from the communities; we work with flat hierarchies, mutual learning, and spirituality

What We're Looking For:

Committed, versatile individuals who are ready to live with us and help shape our work for at least 3 years. Working hours are approximately 40 hours/week, Mon–Fri (occasional weekend work possible). Compensation based on qualifications & experience.

Areas & Fields of Work:

1. Organization & Communication Office organization, digitalization, IT support, donor communication, reports, social media

2. Pedagogy & Creative Work Recreational activities for children (ages 2–16), music, crafts, gardening, cooking, empowerment

3. Crafts & Daily Life Garden work, animal care, repairs, building, cooking, preserving, cleaning

What You Should Bring:

• Language skills: Romanian, German, or English
• For pedagogy: training or experience with children and young people
• For organization: structured work approach, digital competencies
• Initiative, responsibility, team spirit, improvisational talent
• Openness to Christian values and community living

Living & Community:

• Core Team Marpod: Living on the farm with your own room, community life, chapel, prayer, pets. Accommodation & meals provided free.
• Independent Living: Nearby with more independence. No rent, but own living expenses.
• Completely Free: Rent an apartment & choose your own structure.
